The film earned ₹19.65 crore (nett) according to Sacnilk, a tracking website. The action thriller has been underperforming at the box office for three days, according to the report.
The film grossed ₹ 11.25 Cr on its first day, December 25. Despite a 57.78% decrease in business, it still generated ₹4.75 crore. On the third day, business dropped to ₹3.65 crore, bringing the total to ₹19.65 crore (nett). The Hindi film’s Friday occupancy was 9.62%.
Varun had his biggest opening in five years with Baby John. Kalank, starring Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha, grossed ₹21.60 crore on its opening day in 2019. Varun’s last theatrical releases, Street Dancer 3D (2020), Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), and Bhediya (2022), opened below double digits.
However, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule outpaced the film.
About the film
The film stars Varun, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav, and a cameo by Salman Khan. Kalees directs and Jawan-fame Atlee produces the action thriller. It follows a cop who hides to raise his daughter safely. He must confront his past when her life is in danger. The Vijay-led remake of Theri opened to mixed reviews.
Hindustan Times wrote that the film “starts off on a very choppy note, and there’s no soul for about 40 minutes”. Not much distinguishes Baby John from the action. You can watch it if you can endure the terrible first half-hour and boring songs. PS: Stop using Salman Khan for cameos in every film. Review: Kitni baar use karoge, Bhai?
