Celebrity actress Tisca Chopra recently discussed film business ageism. Chopra confessed to Galatta Plus that “someone younger” replaced her days before a film production, which was disappointing.
The actress said, “In 2016, a particular director strung me along for a bit of time. We prepared costumes, lines, and everything. He said they were going with someone younger four days before the shoot. He tried to excuse it by saying the producers called. But I realized it was just… That wasn’t acceptable anymore.”
The actress lamented the film industry’s youth-over-experience bias. She added, “By that time, I also realized that I had been ignoring things in my head for some time. Working with great directors has allowed me to observe and adopt their processes. She stated, “If youth and beauty are the only attractive factors in a market, my inner self rebels against that.” If they only want the young and attractive, we live in a sad world.”
This encounter also inspired Chopra’s creativity. She took charge of her story and explored filmmaking. She said, “I was performing Chutney at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai. Based on Bhisham Sahni’s tale. In my thoughts, it had also changed. I shared that with a few close friends, and we composed the story. Our hero was neither handsome nor young. She had no additional rights. She had no son or heir and was poorly spoken. She controls that story’s narrative.”
