Farah Khan revealed that a producer offered his son Rs 10 crore to star in Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year.
Having worked in movies for decades, Farah Khan has many anecdotes. The choreographer-filmmaker revealed that a producer offered Rs 10 crore to cast his son in Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year. Farah remembered refusing the offer and casting Vivaan Shah, the son of Naseerudin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, instead.
Farah told comedian and writer Zakir Khan this story after inviting him to her home for lunch. You won’t believe it, but a producer asked me Rs 10 crore to cast his son for Happy New Year. As a ‘Jhansi Ki Rani,’ I said, ‘I will never do this.’ I won’t degrade the film. Shah Rukh might find out I paid Rs 10 crore to cast him. Would never do that. I chose Vivaan Shah because he complemented the character and film perfectly.”
After Tees Maar Khan, Main Hoon Na, and Om Shanti Om, Farah Khan directed Happy New Year (2014), her fourth and final film. This was her third Shah Rukh Khan flick. For Red Chillies Entertainment, Gauri Khan produced the action-comedy.
The film featured Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, and Jackie Shroff in key roles alongside SRK and Vivaan. Happy New Year earned Rs 408 crore on a Rs 140 crore budget. However, critics criticized its language and length.
